POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

            Assists Laboratory Manager as needed to ensure the provision of timely and accurate laboratory test results through processes that are in compliance with requirements established by accreditation standards and by federal/state reimbursement agencies.  Assists as needed in staff-related and administrative tasks.  Oversees various technical activities and aspects of the Clinical Laboratories.  Has knowledge of advanced scientific principles within the specialty area and is able to apply that knowledgeCollaborates with others to organize work, perform assigned tasks and set priorities.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

            A Bachelor’s Degree in medical technology or an appropriate biological/chemical/medical science from an accredited college or university and successful completion of a structured clinical program (CAHEA approved) is required and certification in clinical laboratory sciences by a recognized certifying agency.  Two years clinical laboratory experience with at least one year experience in a specific department.

Histology only

A Bachelor of Science degree in histotechnology is recommended.  Completion of an accredited program in histology and certification as a histotechnician by a recognized certifying agent is required.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) is required.  Certification in Specialty for area of laboratory employment required without a Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) certification.  Must maintain certification status in compliance with specifications for continuing education required by the certification agency

OR 

Certification as a Histocompatibility Specialist by the American College of  Histocompatibility and Immunogenetics (ACHI) is required. 

            OR

Certification as a histotechician by a recognized certifying agency is required.

            OR

Certification as a cytotechnologist by a recognized certifying agency is required.
