Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS)
University HospitalPOSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Performs duties within the Clinical Laboratories area, which requires a sound knowledge of clinical laboratory science. Requires evaluating clinical data and quality control information. Supervises and accounts for work of trainees and other supportive technical personnel employed by the laboratory
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Requires at least two years' working experience as a medical/clinical lab scientist. Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a chemical, physical, biological or clinical laboratory science, or medical technology from an accredited institution. OR High school graduate or equivalent AND successfully completed military training of 50 or more weeks and served as a medical laboratory specialist.
LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Certification not required, but preferred. If certification available, Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) is required Certification in Specialty for area of laboratory employment required without a Medical Laboratory Science (or equivalent) certification. Must maintain certification status in compliance with specifications for continuing education required by the certification agency
