Instrument Technician

University Health is seeking experienced and detail-oriented Sterile Processing Technicians to join our team. These professionals play a critical role in patient safety by ensuring surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies are properly cleaned, inspected, assembled, sterilized, and ready for use by our clinical teams.

We are especially interested in candidates with experience in one or both of the following areas:

• Endoscope Reprocessing
• Minimally Invasive Surgical Instrumentation

SCHEDULE: DAY SHIFT 6:45AM-3:15PM

What You’ll Do

• Perform manual and automated cleaning, inspection, disinfection, sterilization, and processing of surgical instruments and specialized medical devices according to established procedures, manufacturer Instructions, and regulatory standards.
• Perform High-Level Disinfection (HLD) and reprocessing of flexible and specialty endoscopes, including leak testing, manual cleaning, automated reprocessing, drying, storage, and required documentation.
• Inspect and test endoscopes and related equipment for cleanliness, functionality, damage, and proper operation prior to patient use.
• Perform appropriate cleaning, flushing, brushing, lubrication, inspection, and functional testing of complex and specialty instrumentation in accordance with manufacturer Instruction for Use (IFUs).
• Sort and arrange specialized instruments into appropriate trays using count sheets/inventory list, and IFUs.
• Assemble and package instrument trays.
• Safely operate and monitor Sterile Processing equipment according to manufacturer instructions, department guidelines, and established safety standards.
• Monitor and document required quality control testing, chemical indicators, biological indicators, HLD testing, and equipment processing records as applicable.
• Assist with the training and competency development of staff in specialized instrumentation and HLD.
• Maintain competency in applicable AAMI, AORN, manufacturer IFUs, and University Health policies and procedures related to sterile processing and specialized device reprocessing.

Education & Experience

• One year experience as an operating room sterile processing technician with specialized experience with High-Level Disinfection (HLD) and endoscope reprocessing and/or laparoscopic instrumentation and minimally invasive surgical instrumentation is required.
• High school diploma or equivalent experience is required.
• National certification through the Certification Board for Sterile Processing and Distribution (CBSPD) as a CSPDT or the Healthcare Sterile Processing Association (HSPA) as a CRCST is preferred.
• Certification as a CBSPD Certified Flexible Endoscope Reprocessor (CFER) or HSPA Certified Endoscope Reprocessor (CER) is preferred.
