POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES

Performs and submits accurate processing on Cellular Tissue Products (CTPs) for implantation and for the purpose of aiding the physician in diagnostic and therapeutic treatment of patients to include discrimination between closely similar items and correction by use of preset guidelines.  Performs simple maintenance of instruments.  Recognizes unusual results and/or errors and takes prompt and appropriate action to assure the accuracy and validity of test results.  Notifies the supervisor at points where no preset criteria for decision making are available.  Assumes accountability for the dissemination of patient information to ensure the confidentiality and privacy of patients.  Conducts oneself as a professional.  Performs assigned duties accurately and rapidly

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE

Associates degree in chemical, physical, or biological science or medical laboratory technology   OR High school graduate or equivalent AND minimum of one year on the job training or experience in Tissue Banking For Certified Tissue Bank Specialists: . Performs routine and repetitive analysis on all banked cranial bone flaps and homografts, including technical review of all specification sheets according to regulatory standards Demonstrates the performance of routine and/or complex procedures as assigned by a supervisor. Reviews quality control to ensure that it is complete and accurate

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION

Not required; but preferred If certification available, Certification by the American Society for Clinical Pathology Board of Certification (ASCP-BOC) or American Medical Technologists (AMT) OR Certified Tissue Bank Specialist (CTBS) from American Association of Tissue Banks (AATB) Must maintain certification status in compliance with specifications for continuing education required by the certification agency
