POSITION SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES
Oversight and leadership of clinical management and process improvement programs to promote safe and cost-effective use of medications. Service provided for neonatal through adult patients in the hospital is subject to Joint Commission, OSHA, Medicare/Medicaid standards and Texas State Board of Pharmacy Rules and Regulations. Disseminates clinical information to Medical and Pharmacy Staff and allied health personnel. Support of Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) and Drug Utilization Evaluation Committees and subcommittees of P&T. Oversight of formulary utilization programs and critical pathway/order set development. Significant interaction with medical and clinical pharmacy and resident staff and pharmacy information systems staff. Provision of clinical information, including formulary and pathway/guidelines through the web and online dissemination to healthcare professionals. Develops reports monitoring usage and identifying trends in ordering high-cost medications and guides plans to control costs and usage in accordance with therapeutic and cost-effective principles. Conducts surveillance and makes recommendations for cost-effective therapeutic guidelines. Addresses and helps resolve medication reimbursement issues. Oversight of clinical specialists, ICU decentralized pharmacists and Informatics pharmacists.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
Licensure to practice Pharmacy in the State of Texas is required. A Pharm. D. Degree, post-graduate residency, fellowship, or Master’s Degree is required. Five (5) years' additional experience in a clinically oriented hospital pharmacy is required. Additionally, certification via BCPS (Board of Pharmaceutical Specialties) is preferred. Expertise in reimbursement is preferred.

LICENSURE/CERTIFICATION
Must be licensed by the Texas State Board of Pharmacy.
